Business Model
From our cookware design to business model, Milo is all about keeping things simple. We are direct-to-consumer and e-commerce first, which eliminates inflated price tags. We pass these savings onto you, the customer, while maintaining quality control and ethical practices.
Materials
Our cookware is designed in California and ethically manufactured in China, which has a storied history of cast iron craftsmanship. In fact, the oldest cast iron pieces on record were discovered in China. We're proud to have our cookware be part of the country's rich tradition.
After two years of research and development, we carefully selected our factory based on exceptional quality standards and working conditions. Certified BSCI, ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001, our products follow best practices regarding ethics, safety, and environmental management systems.
Moreover, each milo piece is made from 40% recycled iron.

Moreover, each milo piece is made from 40% recycled iron.
It means that 40% of the raw material used to produce our cookware comes from iron reprocessed from manufacturing waste and pieces with small imperfections. This reprocessed material is melted and properly mixed with the new raw material. Additionally, a very small amount of reprocessed iron is collected from outside our factory and goes through a rigorous selection process. The quality of our recycled iron is crucial to a world-class final product.
In fact, quality control is the reason we don't use 100% recycled iron. Our 40% blend ensures the highest possible grade. Using 100% recycled iron would impact the quality, resulting in a softer piece.

Raw or bare cast iron has no protective coating, which makes the cookware susceptible to rusting. Of course, many people still cook with raw cast iron, but these pieces require seasoning before use.
Pre-seasoned cast iron has a protective coating on it that's derived from natural materials such as coconut oil or silicone. While pre-seasoned cast iron can be used out of the box, it requires occasional seasoning to prevent rust.
Enamel cast iron is coated with enamel paint. It does not require seasoning unless the cookware has exposed areas (generally around the rim and lid), which are very low maintenance. Learn more here.

Our knobs are made of premium 304 stainless steel. A grade commonly used for outdoor grilling, this steel stands up to very high temperatures. The knob is screwed in and can be switched out for easy customization.
No, you don't need not remove it. It is made of silicone and is completely oven-safe. It should be noted that the silicone gasket is optional, and your Dutch oven will perform fine without it.
Yes, our Dutch ovens and skillets are anti-stick, but not in the same way as a Teflon pan. We wanted to steer clear of Teflon and select a finish that would last while ensuring the perfect browning. We recommend always cooking with oil or butter.
The only difference is the finishes. The black interior is satin enamel, and the white interior is a glossy vitreous enamel. Both interiors are easy to clean and perform equally well.
Our cookware can be used on all cooking surfaces (gas, electric solid plate or radiant ring, ceramic, or induction) and withstand up to 500°F (260°C) in the oven. Achieve the most perfect braising and appreciate how our cookware conveniently moves from your stovetop to oven to table.
Absolutely. Just be sure to gently place the cookware on your stove and avoid dragging it to prevent scratching.
Yes, we have conducted boil testing to compare the performance of our cast iron with 3-ply clad stainless steel. Our Dutch oven had water boiling 2 minutes faster than the stainless steel cookware.

Hand washing: When it comes to cleaning, allow your Dutch oven or skillet to cool before washing it with warm water, soap, and a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Wipe your cast iron dry and store away from humidity. For a little extra TLC, apply a small amount of Milo Seasoning Oil or any neutral cooking oil to the rim of the pot and the edge of the lid occasionally before storing.
In the dishwasher: Yes, you read this right...your enameled Dutch oven and skillet can be safely cleaned in the dishwasher! Just note that repeated dishwashing may dull the enamel over time. For optimal cleaning results, nothing beats handwashing, but we won’t judge you if you need a little help from time to time. To prevent scratching, ensure your Dutch oven or skillet isn’t in direct contact with utensils during the cleaning cycle.
Take note: Raw cast iron is not dishwasher safe. You’ll want to wash them exclusively by hand. See instructions below and read our article here.

Our advice is simple: don’t use metal utensils. This puppy is tough, but not indestructible. Less abrasive tools like wood and silicone are your cookware’s best friend.
Yup, this is a real thing. Never plunge your cookware into water while it’s still hot. Our enamel is super durable, but the rapid temperature change can nevertheless result in cracking enamel. Always cool down your Dutch oven or skillet down before putting it in water. For best cooking results, ensure even heat distribution by starting with medium or low heat. Remember: Dutch Ovens and skillets get hot and stay that way. If you’re serving straight from your cookware (and it’s too pretty not to!), place the Dutch oven or skillet on a trivet or heat-resistant surface.
Seasoning refers to the process of developing a protective coating on cast iron by applying oil and heat. Thanks to the interior enamel of most of our Classic Dutch ovens and skillets, they’re ready to go out of the box...no seasoning required! Our raw cast iron Dutch Ovens, however, come pre-seasoned and will require occasional seasoning throughout their lifetime. Seasoning with Milo Seasoning Oil brings back your Dutch oven’s super non-stick powers and restores its original luster.
It bears repeating here that you don’t want to be using metal utensils with your Dutch oven to prevent scratching altogether. However, don't be alarmed if you see little scratches and lines after using a wooden spoon or silicone spatula. This is normal and won’t impair performance at all. In many cases, these marks can be removed entirely by first scrubbing with a little baking soda and water or a cookware cleaner like Bar Keepers Friend.
These black splotches at the bottom of your cookware are perfectly normal and will likely develop over repeated use. To remove them, we recommend cleaning the bottom of your cookware with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
After a particularly epic cooking session, you may notice residue at the bottom of your Dutch oven or skillet. Soak your cookware with boiling hot water for 10 to 15 minutes, rinse, dump some rough kosher salt inside, and scrub it around to get a little more abrasion. See our article, How to clean a dutch oven.
Milo Bakeware
Materials
Milo bakweare is designed in Canada and ethically produced by our BSCI certified manufacturing partners in Yunfu City, Guangdong China.
Simply put, tri-ply clad stainless steel is exceptionally durable—way more durable and longer lasting than non-stick-coated carbon steel bakeware. Our pre-cut parchment paper takes care of all your non-stick needs so you can appreciate bakeware that lasts a lifetime. Moreover, stainless steel is entirely non-toxic.
It's two layers of stainless steel sandwiching an aluminum core. The aluminum ensures perfect heat distribution, while the non-toxic stainless-steel outer layers prevent the aluminum from coming into contact with your food.
Our bakeware is made of 304-grade stainless steel, a grade known for its excellent corrosion resistance.
No. Non-stick coatings have a limited lifespan. Always putting durability first, we use non-coated tri-ply clad stainless steel. For a non-stick solution, pair our bakeware with our pre-cut parchment paper.
Yes. Our bakeware is designed for traditional home ovens as well as commercial gas and convection ovens. It withstands temperatures up to 1,000°F (538°C) and so it is compatible with outdoor grill and is flame resistent.
Yes. Our 2 mm tri-ply clad stainless steel is sturdy enough for outdoor grilling or any other open-flame cooking. Withstanding temperatures up to 1,000°F (538°C), our versatile bakeware is great for tossing veggies on the grill—no more food contact with aluminum and no more foil winding up in landfills.
Use & Care
Our round cake pans are available in 6-inch, 8-inch, 9-inch, and 10-inch diameters. Each size serves its own purpose. Although, if you can only purchase one, we recommend the 9-inch pan, as it's the most common size for cakes and pies. And if you want to purchase multiple pans, try combining the 6-inch with the 9-inch to make a tiered cake that wows the crowd. Also, our 6-inch cake pan is great for preparing single-serve dishes.
A half-sheet pan is a must-have in every kitchen. Designed with ergonomic handles, these pans can rest directly on the rack lips of a 24-inch built-in oven. With two half-sheet pans and one cooling rack, all your essential baking and roasting needs are covered. And if you have a large capacity toaster oven, our 9 x 13-inch quarter-sheet racks will do the trick.
Dishwasher
Our tri-ply clad stainless steel bakeware is dishwasher safe. Just ensure the tough and sturdy bakeware doesn't come in contact with stoneware during the cycle.
Hand Wash
For those who prefer hand washing, pour hot water into the pan and leave it for a few minutes before washing it with warm water and dish soap.
Heavy cooking stains
For burned or burnished bakeware, use coarse salt and gently massage the surface, then scrub with a non-abrasive sponge. Baking soda and water also work well. Mix baking soda and a little water to make a paste. Spread the mixture evenly across the bottom of the pan, let it sit for a few minutes, scrub, and rinse.

While it's possible to season your stainless-steel bakeware, we recommend using parchment paper for your non-stick needs. If you choose to season our bakeware, be aware that our cake and sheet pans will develop a golden colour from the burned oil.
Parchment paper
Materials
Simply put, parchment paper (also called greaseproof paper) is paper that has been coated on both sides with a layer of heat-resistant silicone. The silicone makes it nonstick, greaseproof, and safe to use in ovens. Wax paper, on the other hand, is coated with wax (usually paraffin or beeswax). So, while wax paper is nonstick and grease-resistant, it melts and burns when exposed to heat. Read the full article here.
Freezer paper and parchment paper are two different things. Freezer paper is a thick paper with one side coated in wax. Freezer paper has a very specific purpose, which is to wrap meat that's to be frozen. The wax coating helps preserve the quality of the meat, and the unwaxed side can be written on for easy identification. It’s also popular for wrapping seafood and cheese because the wax coating lends a degree of water resistance to the paper. Freezer paper is unsuitable for cooking because the wax surface will melt when exposed to heat, and the unwaxed side can catch fire.
Parchment paper, meanwhile, is coated on both sides with silicone which makes it both heat-resistant and freezer friendly.

We can't speak to other brands, but our parchment paper is fully biodegradable and meets EN13432 European standard certification requirements. Feel good tossing Kana parchment paper in your home compost. And if you need to throw it away, rest assured that it will completely break down.
Kana parchment paper is bleached using a chlorine-free technology. Our bleaching process is very advanced and safe with no harmful chemicals, all while meeting the highest hygiene standards for commercial and home use.
Use & Care
You can with Kana parchment paper! Our parchment paper is certified biodegradable and compostable, so no need to worry about adding used parchment paper to your home compost. It is also very convenient to wrap your food waste into our parchment paper before disposing of everything in the compost bin.
You can reuse the same sheet of parchment paper more than once, and we hope you do! Baked cookies slide easily off the nonstick paper, making it easy to reuse the sheet for your next batch. When the parchment paper becomes dry, browned, or brittle, it’s time to change it. Thankfully, Kana parchment paper is fully compostable and biodegradable, so you never need to feel bad about reaching for a fresh sheet.
When used under proper conditions, parchment paper will not catch fire. It's important to never expose parchment paper (ours included) to an open flame or cooking element. Parchment paper is safe to use in ovens, and our recommended maximum usage temperature is 428°F (220°C).
There is a risk when using parchment paper in an air fryer. Sometimes, the turbulence of the fan can lift the paper and put it into contact with the heating element. To prevent this from happening, it’s important to never pre-heat your air fryer with the parchment paper inside. Only add the parchment paper to the air fryer basket when you’re ready to add your food.

Absolutely! Because of its heat-resistant silicone coating, parchment paper is perfect for cooking in the oven. It’s great for lining cake tins and baking trays or cooking delicious packet-baked food like a mouthwatering salmon en papillote. Our recommended maximum temperature is 428°F (220°C).
It is safe to use parchment paper in the microwave. In fact, using a piece of parchment paper is a great way to cover your food and prevent messes.
Wax paper is not the same thing as parchment paper. While parchment paper is safe to use in ovens, wax paper is not. The wax coating on wax paper will melt if exposed to heat and can even begin to smoke and catch fire. Read the full article here.
You can use parchment paper in your air fryer basket to help keep it clean. Kana’s perforated air fryer liners are made just for this! But remember to never pre-heat your air fryer with the parchment paper inside. Only add the parchment paper to the air fryer basket when you’re ready to add your food. Otherwise, the fan can blow the paper into contact with the heating element, which is a fire hazard. Learn more here.
Kana parchment paper is designed to fit a number of different pans. If you’re worried that Kana parchment paper man not fit, we recommend measuring your cookware.
For round cake pans: measure across the widest point of the pan's bottom inside. Side note, our 10-inch skillet has a 9-inch diameter bottom and will require the round 9-inch or easylift 9-inch
For square cake pans: measure the length and width of the bottom inside of the pan.
For air fryer baskets: measure the inside bottom of the basket at the widest point. See our measuring tips.

Kitchen textiles
SWEDISH DISHCLOTHS
Materials
Our Swedish dishcloths are made from 70% cellulose and 30% cotton that has been certified sustainably sourced by the FSC.
It means that after around its 200-wash lifecycle, your dishcloth can be disposed of in the compost bin. Moreover, during a washing cycle, textiles lose fibers that eventually drain into our oceans. As a result, synthetic fiber dishcloths (i.e. polyester) end up affecting the marine ecosystem. On the other hand, compostable textiles (like those used in our dishcloths) break down without being harmful while contributing to a circular economy.
Use & Care
Our dishcloth is composed of a non-woven material and built in a way that lets air travel through it, like a sponge. Bad odors are usually caused by humid remaining too long into the textile, which spawns bacteria. Our dishcloths dry quickly, preventing bacteria from multiplying.
Of course, they are machine washable and resist to temperatures up to 90°C / 195°F.
Absolutely. They can be washed in most any device with temperatures up to 90°C / 195°F.
Yes, they are tumble-dry safe; although, repeated tumble-drying will reduce the lifespan. Since they dry so quickly on their own, it's often recommended to just let them lay flat.
TRIVETS
Materials
Our felt trivets are made from 100% polyester derived from post-consumer plastic bottles. Each 3-pack of trivets diverts around 12 plastic water bottles from landfills.
Use & Care
While being very sturdy, our felt trivets would get damaged in the washing machine so spot cleaning with a damp cloth is the way to go.

1% for the planet
Through our commitment to 1% for the Planet, Kana has chosen to partner with One Tree Planted, a non-profit organization that focuses on global reforestation. As an environmental charity, they're dedicated to making it easier for individuals and businesses to give back to the environment, create a healthier climate, protect biodiversity and help reforestation efforts around the world. When you purchase a Milo product from Kana, we will donate a portion of our profits to planting trees in the same place where Milo was designed and imagined.
Afterpay
Afterpay is a buy-now-pay-later service that enables our customers to place orders and pay for them in four interest-free installments every two weeks.
When you’re ready to complete your purchase, choose Afterpay from the payment methods offered at checkout. This will take you to the Afterpay website where you can register and account and add your payment details. If you already have an Afterpay account, simply sign in. Once you’re logged in to Afterpay you can complete your purchase, and that’s it!
Unlike other lenders, Afterpay don’t make their money from interest on customer purchases. Instead stores like Kana foot the bill so that we can make this convenient service available to our customers.
Orders processed using Afterpay will be shipped within the same timeframe as orders placed using other payment methods.
Your first Afterpay installment is paid at the time of purchase, and then the remaining three installments are automatically deducted every two weeks from the payment method on your Afterpay account. If you like, you can sign in to Afterpay and make unscheduled payments early or check the status of your account.
Our refund process is exactly the same regardless of what payment method you use. The only difference with Afterpay is that your refund may take up to 48 days longer to be processed. This is because the money has to come from Afterpay, not us. If you would like to inquire about a return please email our customer service at hello@kanalifestyle.com
If an automatic payment fails due to lack of funds, Afterpay will charge an $8 late payment fee, and an additional $8 if the payment isn’t made within 7 days. Late fees are capped at 25% of the purchase price. Failure to meet any installments can lead to cancellation of the customer’s Afterpay account. You can read Afterpay’s Installment Agreement here (afterpay.com/installment-agreement).
